The week was all about records – Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Bayern Munich, which has been all-conquering in Germany. In Tennis, Novak Djokovic is turning the ATP Tour into Djokovic and the others with a display of tennis dominance that is daunting. We also had some drama at the Rugby World Cup but here are seven things that caught our attention
Bayern set Bundesliga record
Bayern Munich became one the first Bundesliga side to win their opening nine matches. This feat was achieved on Saturday as they went away to Werder Bremen and recorded a 1-0 win courtesy of a Thomas Muller goal in the first half. The perennial league champions are now seven points clear of second-placed Borussia Dortmund with just nine matches in the 2015/16 season.
Referee flees Rugby World Cup match
South African referee Craig Joubert fled the pitch immediately he blew the final whistle for the quarter final matchup between Australia and Scotland on Sunday as Australia recorded a last minute penalty to edge the encounter 35-34.
Joubert seemingly saw a deliberate offside and gave a penalty despite a replay showing some discrepancies in his call.
Bernard Foley successfully converted the kick with just seconds left on the clock and Joubert sprinted straight to the tunnel, with Scotland captain Greig Laidlaw, hard on his heels seeking an explanation. Surely he is now persona non grata in the British Isles.
Ronaldo is real Madrid’s goal king
Finally, whatever or whoever you read, Cristiano Ronaldo is now Real Madrid’s highest ever goal scorer as he scored one of the goals against Levante on Saturday to take his team to the top of La Liga table after a mini drought that lasted all of 399 minutes in the league.
The Portuguese has now scored 324 goals in 310 league appearances – an average much better than the legendary Ferenc Puskas could boast of.
Who will stop Novak in 2016?
World No.1, Novak Djokovic claimed his ninth title of a buoyant tennis year with a 6-2 6-4 victory over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the Shanghai Masters on Sunday but it was the manner in which he disposed of his opponents that will have sent followers of the game into a mini-frenzy.
The final was the only match that Djokovic lost more than five games – beating Andy Murray, the supposed No.2 6-1 6-3 in the semi-final. The atpworldtour.com indicates that, “Overall in five matches against Martin Klizan, Feliciano Lopez, Bernard Tomic, Andy Murray and Tsonga, the opponents combined to win only 30 per cent (39/131) of their second serve points.” This is indeed total domination!
Stretcher bearers turn into crashers
Some stretcher bearers in Greece almost maimed the player they were supposed to help off the pitch as they tried to perform their function with a lot of haste devoid of any decorum.
The injured player was dropped twice, was fallen on and then dumped by the side of the pitch. You can only understand the drama when you watch this:

Mum claims buggy marathon record
Jessica Bruce is claiming a world record for running a marathon while pushing a buggy. She completed the Abingdon Marathon with her seven-month-old son in a pushchair in three hours, 17 minutes and 52 seconds.
Meanwhile the Guinness World Records says the current record holder for fastest marathon pushing a pram (female) was three hours, 31 minutes and 45 seconds.
Bruce said she was awaiting confirmation from Guinness whilst adding that, “We did so much training on hilly courses so this was easier than I expected.”
